confuser@lemmy.zipto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Been seeing a lot of posts about replacing Spotify and such, so I wrote up a guide on how I did just thatEnglish13·15 days agoOn bandcamp Friday in 2 days I am going to buy a whole bunch of music to have locally and there are some artists which are not on bandcamp that I still want to have, I know I can buy their CDs or records and save them as files myself but I’d rather just buy and download a high quality digital version and not all of them have digital copies available to download fr the artists…so does anyone have any recommendations for website to buy digital music from that just have a lot of different artists regardless of where they are on platforms?

confuser@lemmy.zipto Fediverse@lemmy.world•fediverse/activitypub based linktree alternativeEnglish2·22 days agoI also do it this way via ghost for the website builder and a2hosting for the domain, and then I have multiple pages for linktree type uses, one is personal and one is public links basically, both pages not accessible via buttons on the website so they are only accessible to anyone with the links to the pages or a way to see the whole site tree.

Here's a chart to help you do so:English10·1 month agoI really wish there was a better version of these kinds of graphics that showed all options better, I guess that would end up being more like a website because there’s so many and followable links are nice, it would end up looking like one of the privacy guide websites but I wish there was something that was less privacy and alternatives focused and was more about giving more options in general because not everyone cares about privacy specifically or being green or whatever else.
confuser@lemmy.zipto Technology@lemmy.world•Large Language Model Performance Doubles Every 7 MonthsEnglish33·2 months agoI saw something once that explained how you can have an ai trained on a set of soccer games and have it generate soccer games as a use for it.
The idea is that the model has compressed all the soccer games into a smaller data size form than the total of having let’s say 100+ games on video or whatever.
That’s the real utility I see in generative ai that I know can keep going basically as long as we want to.
I think what will eventually happen is much like what happened to email, it too was very fragmented feeling early on but more and more adopted it and more servers kept developing and popping up and then at some point more service providers became more similar than alike and then it became what it is now.
The tricky part is that the concept and usefulness of a federated network mostly only grows in the long run and looks like its not going anywhere in the short term much like email and that is always what makes people question its efficacy.
Participation in any and all forms is what establishes it more and more.

confuser@lemmy.zipto Technology@lemmy.world•We need to stop pretending AI is intelligentEnglish124·3 months agoThe thing is, ai is compression of intelligence but not intelligence itself. That’s the part that confuses people. Ai is the ability to put anything describable into a compressed zip.

Unironiclaly I would love to see a useful version of a flowchart like this, it would be so easy to share something like this around to people in order to try out the fediverse compared to everything else.

I guess i was taking the more generous route with the term then, I was treating capability to interact on the platform as federated which in hindsight doesn’t make as much sense as in the normal context of it.
This is the point I was making yes
I think we are meaning the same thing then
In that case matrix also doesn’t federate because its not interacting with the fediverse like here on lemmy.
But revolt, matrix, and rocket.chat are all deployable by end users to connect to the platform and interact with people.
There is revolt and rocket.chat but yes I’d still do matrix over the others unless a direct discord-like clone is absolutely a must for some reason
For those of us on lemmy.zip we can search a.lemmy.zip and it brings up an alexandrite browser version of lemmy.
We can also do m.lemmy.zip for mobile
Is this exclusive to lemmy.zip or so other do this too?
