I have a need to create a new account on mastodon, but I am not familiar with the different instances and servers.
There’s one hosted by a Hexbear user called “matopacos.dog,” that’s one I’ve been eyeing!
It’s toots.matapacos.dog
Oh thanks!
That doesn’t seem to exist? I can’t reach it
Huh, you’re right, it used to though.
I’ll check it out, thanks
Both of those have a “no tankees” rule
Do any of the other instances defederate from these or vice versa? I’d still like to be able to see posts from other instances.
I think kolektiva is defederated from some because of rather loose moderation but todon is mostly accepted
Thanks !
mastodon.social is the flagship instance and as left as it gets.
They are Zionists and you can get banned there for supporting Palestine’s resistance.
It’s absolutely not “as left as it gets”

Depends on the area. As it’s a German instance, in terms of German politics it really is “as left as it gets”. But they probably don’t care much about US politics.
That implies US politics would be more left than German politics? Neither German nor US politics are “as left as it gets”, so I’m not sure they are a great measure here.
It’s a general purpose instance. Gargron may be left leaning, but I don’t think he’s into radical left politics?
There are instances with leftist statements in their about section, openly leftist teams and largely lefty/political local timelines.
I was thinking more that their moderation team is mostly German and thus they’re very sensitive about German politics but less sensitive about other countries’ politics.
I got shadowbanned for life for mentioning not to blindly believe some statement about a “secret” report about the German right-wing party without seeing said report first. So that’s that.
Maybe I misunderstood what you meant with “as it gets”? I thought it basically means it"can’t be more left because it’s already maximum left" and I didn’t see how that’s supported by your experience.
Might be a language barrier as I’m not a native English speaker, yes. And I was referring to their moderation team. They seem to have no issues with extremist left stuff, but the moment you don’t display nothing but pure hate against something considered “right” (in the context of German politics) they get very trigger happy with the ban hammer.
Considering the main usage of the phrase “as left as it gets” is to denounce anyone more radical than the speaker, who is typically about as left as Mussolini, that’s too accurate
I don’t see many posts about socialism or communism when I do a search. Maybe I am doing it wrong?
And I look at their feeds about USA politics. Heavy Democratic Party.
Mastodon.social is about as “left” as lemmy.world, which is to say it’s the right flank of the democrat party.
