Me whenever my family complains about big tech (they still refuse to use any alternatives or even slightly alter their usage)
Right?! That’s my struggle now more than anything is just trying to get people to respect their own privacy and to care a bit more when when it’s violated or exchanged for something of lesser value (in my opinion)
I mean, Linux desktops are getting excellent while windows and mac OS are getting worse. Thats just a fact. Big tech is not interested in developing the desktop any further since the money is in advertising and tracking peoples activities.
Most of their users say “I dont care” anyway so thats the target group. :)
I know the struggles with windows. Guess I am not to familiar with the MAC gripes other than the usual planed obsolescence, walled garden stuff. They aren’t jamming AI into it yet right? That got delayed I think?
I just use Linux but my impression (mac users can give their impression) is that there are more and more small bugs in the system.
But at the same time, their laptops are just incredible. Ive been trying to find a pc laptop and none of them are even close to macbooks, no matter the cost. They just cant make them as good, since they dont control the hardware. You have stuff like coil whine, keyboards breaking, batteries being drained in 6 hours, bad sound, noisy fans running constantly, bad screens… On luxary laptops costing 2000 dollars or more.
I’ve never bought a laptop from a true Linux vendor but my impression is that system76 is the best and most reliable. I’ve heard very mixed things about framework.
Yeah I think both system76 and framework are a bit of a mixed bag. Some things are good, some things are quite bad. For the framework, you pay 2000 dollars but you dont get a 2000 dollar quality laptop - what you get is the ability to repair it and change out parts. So you get a medium quality laptop but with ability to change it. Some people will value that, no doubt, but for me, I think I prefer to buy a new one every three years. I just wish keyboards, mousepads, memory and batteries could be replaced on all laptops. Then they would last a very long time.
I know the Linux side is supposed to be represented by the character on the right.
But can we recognise the other party becomes that character once they have to defend/explain why they’re sticking to big tech?
Yep, goes both ways for sure.
They just ignore you or say “who cares?”. An average person doesn’t have the critical thinking skills an ideological/sceptical person does. They don’t want to know about alternatives to the things they use, because that would require energy, which we reflexively try to save for fictional danger, which never takes place.
Or they just don’t have the bandwidth. Lots of people talk about “spousal approval” when it comes to self hosting and stuff. If you’re strapped for time, resources and have lack of understanding, it can be a hard thing to tackle.
Linux usage on Pornhub is up 22%. Steam Deck gooners are making the meme reality.
True gamers goon on the 3DS
I feel this every time I introduce Linux to Windows minded people
I’ve pretty much stopped in my old age but if people ask me questions about “big tech” then I really start to take them for a ride.
This meme has potential. Your reply could be a good variation. Another one could be Mozilla explaining why Firefox needs AI integration
“The Year Of Our
LordLinuxDesktop”A confusing conception with lots of finger pointing
Which of the characters represents whom?
The intent was the right is the Linux person and the left if the non Linux. But as people have said, the role could swap
This is so relatable.
What character is that on the right?
Anxiety in the right and joy on the left
Is that a sarcasm /s
Ennui 🙄
