I think what makes enshittification is “give users less and charge more”. It’s about returning shareholder value instead of customer value.
Netflix is a great example. They have pulled back on content, made password sharing more challenging, and increased cost. They still report increases in paying users.
They’ve done the math. They know they can take lost in users because they know they’ll make up for it. That’s the sad part in all of this.
The line demands you cut costs but also increase service.
The line demands it go up. It doesn’t care how you get there. In many cases, decreasing service while also cutting costs is the way to do it so long as line goes up.

ISPs already do that here in the states. The court case is to decide whether they should shut off access.
The question I often ask clients who think this way is "How much would it cost if it did fail? Let’s say this happened today. What would be the cost to replace it NOW and not only that but make sure people who are working can still do so with the interruption?
Now how much would it cost to schedule the interruption and manage the fall out in a way that is controllable?
For some, the catastrophic failure points to “hey I fixed the thing!” And the incentives for that kind of person are different from the person whose job is to mitigate risk.
It sounds like your boss is the former. In which case it’s going to be fun when it fails.
Which, honestly, is the better way to go. Treat your compute resources like cattle, not pets.

Yeah, Lemmy had absolutely been great over the last year. 6-hour Top sorting is absolutely key here.
Is it a one-for-one replacement? No. There are a lot of communities that haven’t been able to come over effectively. But the main core communities have and it’s been fantastic.
