2·5 days agoOf course they give a shit about kids safety. Specifically because of media blowback and legal ramifications, not for the sake of the actual kids of course, but still!

Edit to add: Not to handwave the problem away, I think it is legit an issue. I also just thought that was funny.
Somehow, I just managed to get 20 year old Mac software running on my linux setup the other day, something impossible even on a modern Mac setup no doubt.
Someone legit talking about being a “casual linux user” brings, in the best of ways, a tear to my eye.

1·20 days agoI lucked out so hard, I just built my PC in September.
I will literally never verify my real life ID for some online service. I will cut out that service from my life before betraying my own privacy to such a degree. I will throw my computer out the window before ever doing this.
What the fuck is wrong with people?
I went nuts with it recently, burning jello windows on a 3d cube desktop environment… good times.
I promptly disabled it all, but it was fun for 10 minutes.
Even that has been massively simplified, no?

Technology@lemmy.world•Stack Overflow in freefall: 78 percent drop in number of questionsEnglish
5·1 month agoI do wonder then, as new languages and tools are developed, how quickly will AI models be able to parrot information on their use, if sources like stackoverflow cease to exist.

4·1 month agoThey do exist, and that can’t be undone, but those depicted in them have not consented to be used in training data. I get the ends, I just don’t think that makes the means ethically okay. And maybe the ends aren’t either, to be fair, without awaiting research on the subject, however one might do that.

Technology@lemmy.world•Librarians Are Tired of Being Accused of Hiding Secret Books That Were Made Up by AIEnglish
15·2 months agoThat’s more of a tone thing, which is something AI is capable of modifying. Hallucination is more of a foundational issue baked directly into how these models are designed and trained and not something you can just tell it not to do.

4·2 months agoThis is an article about a sad, inept, old man’s ramblings, tangentially related to technology. Not nearly worth posting about in this community - in my opinion, of course.

HDMI either works or it doesn’t. It’s not an analogue signal.
