It sounds nice, but I think this is a wash.

The fundamental philosophical error here is assuming that all forms of simulation are computational or mathematical.

But dreams aren’t simulating reality as we observe it; they just kinda do their own thing. Your brain isn’t consistently simulating quantum mechanics (or, hell, even simple things like clocks) while you’re dreaming so this is a moot point.

Free markets are a myth. Every country on Earth regularly interferes in the market to align it with its interests; China just does it more. That’s still not communism, because you can’t have billionaires (or private property in general) under communism. China under Mao was communist, but under Xi? No way. The Chinese government exerts significant control over its economy, but the primary driver of economic growth is still the private sector. China isn’t doing anything fundamentally different from what any Western capitalist state could do if they got their act together for five minutes.

First, what’s a “communism?” Second, China is capitalist as hell; it’s just capitalism under an authoritarian regime rather than under a democracy.

There are plain old anime piracy sites, for both downloading and streaming, if you don’t want the headache.

I don’t think it is, maybe we are due for another growth spurt but from here on out I genuinely think a critical mass has been achieved where it will simply make more and more sense for people to come here.

Maybe for English and a handful of major European languages, but there’s no way I could recommend the Fediverse (at least the Threadverse; I don’t hang out on Mastodon) to an Arabic or Japanese speaker. In that area it’s still severely lacking.

I mean at this point you’ll have to boycott everyone. Boycotting isn’t gonna cut it anymore.

We could argue all day over who is experiencing reality or who is in an echo chamber.

We could, or you could read the article where it addresses exactly that point. Most demographics are slightly positive on AI, with some neutral and only nonbinary people as slightly negative. The representative US sample is at 4.5/7.

The article contains nothing of the sort and I have no idea why you came to that conclusion.

You might be living in an echo chamber. Most Americans use AI at least sometimes and plenty use it regularly according to studies.
