  • Lol Volkswagen, the company that actively rigged diesel cars to pass the tests… ? Dieselgate. The German car manufacturers are hopelessly late at EV because they wanted to drain every last penny out of their ICE. The EU setback to extend ICE is after German car manufacturers lobbied… They are killing themselves in the long run, for bit more production in the short run. They saw this all coming decades ago and made wrong choices. Now they’re fucked. The Volkswagen id (EV) sales numbers are so disappointing they had to lower production and make employees stay home.

  • “trick some of them accidentally” is definitely underestimating average users. In my experience 95% + of all users click consent once, all is stored forever and they’ll never see the banner again, for sure not on the same device. They don’t do adblocking, no automatic cookie deleting, in fact no browser extensions at all. The average fediverse user is a weird mix of a 1990’s internet poweruser with a today tech kid trying to make it into the future technologies on their own terms and by faaaar not an average user visiting average website on average devices with average browsers and configurations. In short: most people don’t experience this ‘problem’ like us, because they consent by default to anything you throw at them and are then in the gated tracking paradise where there’s barely any cookienagging, visiting the same handful of websites all the time anyway.

  • Not German but moved to Germany. The word is still a normal word, it can be used, only in certain contexts not.

To me it is very very weird.

Especially in a comboword there is 0,0 issue: Reiseführer, Bergführer, etc. The no go zone seems very subtle to me, it’s more about pronunciation and context, not the word itself. Especially the word “Führerschein” is super weird to me when used in regular conversations. I automatically hear translated “license to be the Führer”, but it just means driver’s license and nothing else and no one finds it weird.

  • Musicbrainz Picard, there is no better user friendly solution.

Yes, it can seem like a lot of work, but you can also look at the flip side: you can learn a whole lot about the music you like in the process.

If music metadata is missing for stuff you have and like, add it to musicbrainz yourself. No, it isn’t particularly fun, but someone has to do it. I do it sometimes for more “local” albums of which I own the physical record or CD.

If shit is really messed up and you have a historic collection of mp3s from back in the days when getting a full album took a long time: don’t be scared to throw stuff out and source it again. It’ll likely be much higher quality for same or smaller filesize and have better metadata from source already, which makes using musicbrainz a lot easier. And what took many hours back then takes seconds to minutes now.

  • Yeah sad they’re stopping it. I used it to easily access all services when not home… Jellyfin, audio bookshelf, dashboards, nextcloud… All worked rather well on it with very little effort (just had to turn the meshnet feature off and on again on phone once in a while). I don’t think there is any other company offering anything as simple as this was…

  • I don’t know about yunohost, but dietpi doesn’t feel restrictive. You can use the dietpi software manager, but you can also install whatever else you want next it using apt, docker, etc, adjust systemd, Cron, rsync etc outside of it. They just don’t guarantee they might sometimes break a thing you run outside of what they offer when you run dietpi updates?
