Well the old clients are backward compatible, but you should check if your client can use new features. But mostly it’s that you have to be on a server that supports it

I assessed Matrix a few years ago and came to the same conclusion. I went with IRC3 which is a new standard that overcomes most of IRC’s issues. I think IRC is still quite good, and actually has working clients for everything, web etc

I’ve been using folding phones for the last 4 years and it’s awesome. There’s no downside and a lot of benefits

• you can clip it onto your shirt with the flashlight on
• it fits into weird little pockets
• you can use it as a stand for another phone to watch youtubes

I manage like 200 servers in Google cloud k8s but I don’t think I’d do that for home use. The core purpose is to manage multiple servers and assign processes between them, auto scaling, cluster internal network - running docker containers for single instance apps for personal use doesn’t require this kind of complexity

My NAS software has a docker thing just built into it. I can upload or specify a package and it just runs it on the local hardware. If you have a Linux shell, I guess all you really have to do is run dockerd to start the daemon, make sure your network config allows connections, and upload your docker containers to it for running
