When I see “without chemicals” I just assume it’s shorthand for “without known harmful chemicals, probably” until I carefully read the label and learn more

WHY THE FUCK ARE PEOPLE STILL EXPECTING THIS GARBAGE TO WORK? Tesla’s “full self driving” crashes have been widely covered. Is it simple ignorance? Are they not aware of the news? Is it stubbornness? Laziness? Thinking that “it won’t happen to me”? Do they sincerely believe Musk’s lies?
I know that victim blaming isn’t the answer, and that’s not what I’m doing. I just want to know what’s going on in their heads.

Looks good. Nice work!

Had a friend who was hired by a temp agency to reprogram outdated mainframes in an ancient programming language. He was paid for training. There were ARMIES of people like him doing last-minute fixes. Y2K would have been a tremendous disaster if people had just ignored it.
See also: the environment, but without armies of people working on fixes.

I rarely post but comment a fair amount. To me, it’s only been recent, but I’ve noticed a decline, too.

A welcome exception!

“Low cost” and “Apple” go together like oil and water.

As an American, I’m astonished to see how reliant upon us foreign governments had allowed themselves to become. Nobody noticed that this constituted a major security threat? I’m very sorry that current American regime is what it took, but at least it’s not all bad. This is a wake-up call for the U.K. and all of Europe.

Okay, thanks!

Mostly nontechnical person here: how much active maintenance does this driver need? To the uninitiated, it sounds like it should be basic and standard.

This article says it better than I can

Did you ever get to use one of the old iPods with a click wheel interface? That thing is a genuine legend of engineering, and deservedly so. They definitely spent a lot on marketing, but marketing wasn’t their only advantage.

I wanna give them the benefit of the doubt, but this isn’t a user interface issue. As I understand it (please correct me if I’m wrong), AI seems to have hit a wall. Code optimization and improvements in computing power can only make AI incrementally better. They can’t solve hallucinations and related problems.
Unless Apple really has some serious magic up their sleeve, they’ll just be another player in the increasingly crowded AI market.

They’re not inventors, but they’re major innovators when it comes to making stuff more user friendly. I have my complaints about Apple, but this isn’t one of them.

The Tea app is a women-only dating safety platform where members can share reviews about men, with access to the platform only granted after providing a selfie and government ID verification.
This sounds irresistible for angry misogynists. The only thing that surprises me about this is that it didn’t happen earlier.

Please don’t mistake Lemmy for a PR dumping ground.
