Tech giants have been caught with their pants down because they preferred to outspend competition on hardware rather than trying to optimise for what they had already. It looks like their way out is to pretend nothing happened because investors can’t tell they’re being served bs.

This thing has bipartisan support, local business support and seems to be supported by wider general public thanks to scare tactics and lobbying from Meta. I understand that Democrats conditioned their voters to ignore things they agree on with Republicans but they’re not in charge anymore. It’s like the whole country went on a carnival ride, got stuck and are now trapped in this weird loop.
I do wonder why do they bother with pretences like this. Would Americans not buy „hey, we’re going to do to Chinese companies what they have been doing to ours for years now”?
Why would Google make an exception to their global policy? Is it because America is special?
I’m sure now that OpenAI accuses DeepSeek of stealing they will now prove that they have rights to things that are being stolen, right? XD

It’s funny that I can interpret this in every way possible. Yes, I prefer to be able to be critical of US or Russia on my social media without getting downranked. Yes, I’m for free elections in Belarus. I’d be for banning nazi symbols but they’re banned where I live already.

- Distrowatch mentions OpenKylin, a Chinese Linux distribution, gets flagged.
- Facebook support (person making around $3.5 per month in some third world country) doesn’t know difference between specific Linux distro and Linux itself, tells Distrowatch that Linux is now banned.
- Distrowatch doesn’t research anything and cries foul without second thought because Meta is evil.

Why? Google does this everywhere because naming is completely arbitrary and it makes sense to be up to date with current nomenclature. Poland changed name of Kaliningrad (Russian exclave that we border) to Królewiec (what it was called when it was part of Poland) in a similar manner to troll Russians and Google updated our maps as well. Apple didn’t in either case so you have options.
It’s a backdoor - they’re sending specific commands over the network to devices that were made vulnerable by design but in an obfuscated way.
With oligarchs completely taking over the US, this is unlikely to happen.
