Fediverse@lemmy.world•Are there any abandoned fediverse communities you'd like to see resurrected?

Sadly I think I might be the only person here who plays.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Is Pixelfed sawing off the branch that the Fediverse is sitting on?
13·2 months agoI don’t think every Fediverse platform needs to support every type of post, and I especially don’t think it’s an impending catastrophe if they don’t. In fact I think it’s better to specialize. Even though Mbin supports microblogging, I prefer using this account solely for threads and a separate Pleroma account for microblogging.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Plebbit is the the most decentralized selfhosted social media protocol And why development slowed Down

I want to see The Year of the Linux Desktop™ as much as anyone else on this platform, but I think you’re living in a bubble if you believe there’s any universe in which this could suddenly dethrone Windows.
It’ll carve out a good niche for itself, but that’s really all it will be.
I don’t think they even can manufacture at a scale anywhere close to the big three. Like with the Steam Deck, it’ll be a great product for a niche audience, but the numbers will be limited in comparison. No chance of taking over the industry.
The only thing keeping me off of Wayland is the fact that OBS window capture forces me to manually reselect every window every time.

Technology@lemmy.world•Sora might have a 'pervert' problem on its hands

Glad to hear he’s doing well. I had worried maybe the worst might’ve happened.
The majority of users lurk, and those that comment aren’t all commenting on the same post. It’s not at all plausible for 10% of the MAU to be commenting on one thread. Consider that no other thread sees anywhere close to those numbers, this is unheard of.

Technology@lemmy.world•Transgender, nonbinary and disabled people more likely to view AI negatively, study shows
8·6 months agoThe average person is not informed enough to even be aware of the problems with AI. Look at how aggressively AI is being marketed, and realize that this marketing works.
I thought Kbin had the most potential, but even after it was reborn as Mbin it does feel like it’s been largely forgotten. Interstellar’s alright, but I’m not super in love with it and it doesn’t look like anything else plans to support it.
Piefed has gotten all the attention now, and I keep eyeing it wondering if the grass is greener.
I’m never touching Lemmy thanks to its devs though.
PCSX is a lot less accurate.
How does that analogy make any sense? No one has done anything malicious to him. He released open source software, got mad and revoked the open source license for newer versions, then got even more mad when people continued using the old open source version. Which is a problem he brought on himself. And his continued tantrums still won’t keep distros from packaging the only version they even can package.
This is the dev that changed the license a while back from GPL to CC-BY-NC-ND because they got mad about forks.
The kicker here is that the AUR package they’re whining about here is based on the last GPL version.
Estimates? That seems even more problematic.

New Communities@lemmy.world•FediverseSlander, a pointless drama comm for kvetching about when there are blatant lies told about other users on the Fediverse. Come with receipts or not at all!
13·7 months agoNo matter how you wanna put it, making an entire community dedicated to escalating isn’t really any better.

I miss my old Motorola Droid 2. I don’t need a thinner phone, give me that slider form factor.
