  • OK, but the logical comparison here is not the OS on Switch, Xbox, PlayStation or any generic handheld, it’s to SteamOS, where Windows struggles to compete.

Like everyone else who “chooses” Windows, ROG has surrendered to what’s the default. Never mind that Windows has spent decades to position themselves that way through incentive, obstacle, and plain old coercion.

I don’t expect you to care about Microsoft’s business practices, but you ought to care that they didn’t achieve or maintain their market position by creating good software or giving a tiny shit about user freedom.

  • I was actually delighted when Windows 11 added tabs to notepad and explorer, and layers make MSPaint worth using.

But all of these things became buggy messes. Explorer showing ads for OneDrive and inexplicable behavior, On more than one occasion, the address bar would become unusable, and I deeply resent having to use the mouse to do simple tasks.

Now I know that this was prelude to Copilot.

So now I daily drive Debian making me a computer user, not a resource for billionaires to mine.

  • The reflexive hate for M$ is not irrational fan-boys bashing a rival, but bitterness over prolonged and profound annoyance, suffering, and downright abuse experienced through using the products produced by that dogshit company.

I switched because I wanted software that didn’t hate me and my values.

What’s irrational is the Stockholm-syndrome Windows user who thinks it’s normal and right to run software that spies, advertises, and generally treats users like a resource to be exploited.
