This was initially demoed at FediCon 2025, but CrowdBucks is an open source, self-hostable fundraising system that allows people to financially support one another. You use your existing Fediverse account to hold a fundraiser, and can also donate to other people’s fundraisers as well. The form factor is kind of similar to Kickstarter or Patreon.
Wouldn’t this kind of projects benefit from implementing GNU Taler? Even if only a tiny fraction of people do use it, if there are reference implementation that all such funding platform can rely on, it could make the network grow quite fast.
“Payment system” makes it sound like a replacement for PayPal or Stripe.
But it’s really a replacement for ko-fi or buy me a coffee.
I want to see how they handle PCI data but this seems promising.
