I don’t really bother encrypting my personal PC, there’s just not much on there at all that I even store. My server is definitely LUKS encrypted, but it’s a lot of effort for a very specific attack vector that I don’t anticipate. There’s things I’d be much more concerned about a burglar stealing than a storage device.

Even 4K is noticeable for monitors (but probably not much beyond that), but this is referring to TVs that you’re watching from across the couch.

The shift to Linux is a tough one, and it just cannot happen all at once. The longer you spend in a workflow, the longer it takes to change it. If we offer our support and kindness to people when they struggle with Windows, it lends more credibility when we recommend Linux. Plus, I’m not really going to complain about another opportunity to call out when Microsoft does more dumb shit.

Not only that, but even if you manage to find a platform that isn’t directly owned by them, they are payment service networks. They are there along the way to facilitate transactions and manage relationships with merchant services. There is no escaping them.

I’m with you. I was using Netscape way back and loved Firefox from its inception, and tried to convince everyone I knew to use it. Earlier this year I finally switched to Waterfox, and I haven’t looked back. I tried Librewolf first, and it was great, but they don’t have an app and that was a dealbreaker for me. Waterfox feels a lot like older Firefox UI-wise, and I love the tab containers.

Just one server, but multiple “services” (i.e. Jellyfin, Minecraft, Discord bots, Wordpress, etc). Server is kind of a misnomer there

It’s mildly entertaining at times to scroll through the reviews of the HEIF Image Extension in the Microsoft Store. Microsoft doesn’t care one bit how bad they are.

The only thing Windows has ever done with my HDR is decide for no reason to put insane contrast and color temps on my displays. Then I have to flick it on and off repeatedly until it looks a bit less terrible

I really want a FOSS solution for my notetaking, but I feel like I want too much. I love how well OneNote works with my Surface in terms of drawing notes, but I also love writing notes in Markdown and graph structure. I’ve at least been trying out Dendron for the latter, and it’s been alright.
