I don’t think I’ll ever buy any product that advertises itself as ‘smart’. They seem to be anything but.
Edit: I do have a 14 year old ‘smart’ TV, but it’s basically only a monitor for my PC.

I regret ever getting mixed up with Amazon in the first place. I canceled Prime, stopped ordering from Amazon’s website, found a Kindle alternative, pulled the plug on my IoT crap, and unplugged my Echoes. No regrets. YMMV.

Advertising is a small part of the experience, and it helps customers discover new content and products they may be interested in. If customers don’t like a suggestion, they can swipe to skip to the next screen card or directly provide feedback by tapping the Information icon or pressing the screen.

Just a clock and a calendar? That’s not the limit of what these things do, but that’s easier to get that functionality without ads.

I don’t really like the idea - I don’t have an old one to use for that, but even if I had, I wouldn’t leave it plugged in 24/7 with an aging battery inside of it. I’m looking for something that’s either meant to be plugged in constantly or something that can last a few weeks on a single charge.

Anyone know a good TV on the market now? I don’t need ultra resolution. I want it unsmart. I need it to switch between HDMI inputs.
For a TV, just don’t connect it to a network.
This doesn’t work for the Amazon Echo Show though, since internet connectivity is required for its core function.
I know, that’s what I do. It’s just so bloat ridden it’s 5 clicks with a shitty remote to switch inputs. I want a tv with no UI, just a power button, volume, channel, and input. Maybe a menu for color settings. The menus on mine are built to push me to one app or another. Every time I turn it on I have to navigate pop ups and prompts trying to get me to connect it and spend money on one app or another. I just want to go to HDMI 1.
I’m also in the market for one. Can’t give you a recommendation from experience, but from what I read some smart TVs can be booted up and operated in “dumb” mode, which I think would be a good compromise - you might wanna look into that, because dedicated dumb TVs seem to be next to non-existent.
You’ll pay through the nose, but look at digital signage panels. They are bristling with I/O, configurable to the nth degree, wonderfully over-engineered and utterly free from bloat.

Or use eye tracking to automatically pause the ad if you look away from it and hold up everything until you actually watch it
